Hello everyone,

Firstly, I hope that everyone is keeping well. On Thursday we heard that we will be able to meet with other families in open spaces or our own gardens up to a maximum of six people. Some National Trust properties are opening next week but not Newark Park yet. This means that there will be more traffic on the roads so we will need to be a little more observant when we are out and about.

Gloucestershire police have launched a 'Safe and Social Driving' campaign with speed awareness monitors on some of our local roads.

On Sunday we celebrate Pentecost. This is the day that the disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is there for us all. However, we can, from time to time, ignore the prompting of the Spirit. How do we know that we are working with the Holy Spirit? Paul lists the fruits of the Spirit in his letter to the Galatians, love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These fruits will grow in our lives when we accept God working though the Spirit in our hearts.

The Door is a charity in Stroud that supports young people. They offer the Door Line for 11-25 year olds. This is there for young people who live in the Stroud District and want to talk to someone about how they are feeling, need to offload or are worried about lockdown. The Door Line is now open Monday-Friday (Excluding Bank Holidays) 5-7pm. The number is 01453 705350. This is NOT a crisis line.

Marah, the charity that supports homeless people in Stroud is still operating. I attach their latest bulletin.

Finally, I have attached an updated list of volunteers across Amberley. The various self-support groups are working well but they can be assisted by these volunteers. Please contact them or call me on 873176.

If you are helping people here are some straightforward safeguarding guidelines:

'Volunteers to be advised to practice all government advice, so frequent hand-washing, keep a safe distance (leave things on doorstep). They should collect receipts for any purchases and wait for payment before handing over purchases. Those who need help to be advised of receipt/payment structure and that this is a volunteer operation, nothing formal.

Have a good week
Reverend John

I have received the following updates from Minchinhampton Life that apply to Amberley.

Recycling Sites
Horsley (Pyke Quarry) recycling centre finally re-opened this week and centres at Hempsted in Gloucester, Wingmoor Farm at Stoke Orchard and Fosse Cross near Cirencester are already open.

To limit the number of people on-site, pre-booking is required, and vehicles should only have drivers wherever possible – a maximum of one passenger is permitted if you need help to unload your waste and recycling. Social distancing will be required on site, and the number of booking slots available are limited.

Henrys, Minchinhampton
Having had a few technical delays to the new website, we are now informed that it is now up and running. Please see https://orderhenrys.com/ to see how to place orders.

M & B Stores, Minchinhampton
New opening hours as follows: Mon-Fri 8.30am-5.00pm, Sat 9.00am-5.00pm, Sun 9.00am-2.00pm

They now have fresh strawberries, nectarines and plenty of flour. Newspaper deliveries are ongoing along with grocery deliveries too. Due to social distancing they are serving from the door for the foreseeable future, due to lack of space in the till area – keeping both customers and staff safe. (Just letting one person in at a time would cause more people to wait longer.)

The Weighbridge Pies
The Weighbridge Inn are pleased to confirm that they are back with their famous “2in1” pies for you to bake at home from this week! Please note they may have to manage orders a little as they get back into full production but please email your order to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by Weds morning for collection Thurs/Fri/Sat.

Winstones Ice Creams, Rodborough
The doors are open! After a successful trial opening, Winstones have tried and tested their new queuing system and serving process. They will only be open Mon - Fri 10am - 5pm for now and will only be serving scoops in tubs along with cold drinks and hot drinks and take home litres.

They ask that everyone respects ALL measures that they have enforced for your safety as well as theirs.
Winstones would also like to stress that their opening is for the people of Gloucestershire. Their home delivery service is still in place and will be a permanent service if you do not or cannot make a journey.

Burleigh Court Hotel, Burleigh

They have upgraded their Afternoon Tea takeaway with a deliciously fruity berry cupcake and strawberry sponge. You'll also find a moorish macaroon and honeycomb brownie in your box together with a freshly baked scone, jam and cream. And three tasty finger sandwiches. All freshly made, boxed, bagged and ready to go on Friday and Saturday. £13.50 per person. https://www.burleighcourtcotswolds.co.uk/clickcollect/

This is the link to the Business Directory from Minchinhampton Life showing the status of local businesses. Missing from this list are Hobbs House and Stroud Brewery who are still operating as per earlier updates. The Amberley Inn will take orders for Friday and Saturday on the day before for fish and chips. Note that, due to less demand Jane is reducing their hours to Monday’s, Tuesdays and Fridays due to demand levels. Operation of pre-ordering will remain the same but collections between 10.30 and 12 will only be on these days with immediate effect.
