Dear All,

Firstly, I hope that everyone is keeping well. Now that the lockdown has eased a little the common and the lanes in the village are a little busier. Sadly there has been some vandalism and theft reported on Everything Amberley. But, on the plus side, Winston’s have re-opened and have a queuing system. On one of our walks this week we saw a number of people sitting on the grass gazing across the valley whilst enjoying an ice cream.

One heartening conversation was with two ladies who had not seen each other since the lockdown. Their joy at being able to see each other face to face, albeit at two metres, was self-evident. This may make it harder for those who must self-isolate. If you think there is someone who would like a chat with a different person, let me know on 876173 and a will ask if there is a volunteer willing to talk to them.

On Thursday we celebrated Ascension Day. Jesus now intercedes for us with God the Father in heaven. We now wait to celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost or Whit Sunday.

If you are helping people here are some straightforward safeguarding guidelines:

'Volunteers to be advised to practice all government advice, so frequent hand-washing, keep a safe distance (leave things on doorstep). They should collect receipts for any purchases and wait for payment before handing over purchases. Those who need help to be advised of receipt/payment structure and that this is a volunteer operation, nothing formal.

I came across this list of Coronavirus related scams:

EMAIL, TEXT AND PHONE CALL SCAMS: An unexpected email from the government offering you money. The 'infection list' scam mimicking the World Health Organisation (WHO) claiming to provide a list or map of local infections. An email from HM Government asking for donations for the NHS. An HMRC email stating you are ‘eligible to receive a tax refund’. Sale of fake COVID-19 swabbing tests, supplements, and anti-virus kits. A text message asking you to pay a fine as it says you have been ‘recorded as leaving your home on three occasions’ during the lockdown. A phone call stating ‘government guidelines now require everyone to wear a mask outside the house, press 1 to purchase your mask’.
DOORSTEP CRIME Cleansing services that offer to clean drives and doorways to kill bacteria or offering to 'decontaminate' the inside of your home. Bogus healthcare workers offering to take your temperature or provide 'home-testing' for the virus. Criminals offering to do your shopping. They take the money and do not return.

This is the link to the Business Directory from Minchinhampton Life showing the status of local businesses. Missing from this list are Hobbs House and Stroud Brewery who are still operating as per earlier updates. The Amberley Inn will take orders for Friday and Saturday on the day before for fish and chips. Note that, due to less demand Jane is reducing their hours to Monday’s, Tuesdays and Fridays due to demand levels. Operation of pre-ordering will remain the same but collections between 10.30 and 12 will only be on these days with immediate effect.
